Responsible Drinking
Effective date: 2 October 2026
Muddle helps you make drinks from the bottles you already have, and many of those drinks contain alcohol. This page explains how the app handles alcohol and what we ask of you. It follows the responsible-use guidance that TheCocktailDB, the source of the app's real-cocktail recipes, publishes for apps that use its data.
Adults only
The app is for people who are at least 18 and of legal drinking age where they live, whichever is older. The first time you open it, the app asks you to confirm your age. If you say you are not old enough, the app stays closed.
Please do not share the app with anyone under that age, and do not make drinks for them.
How the app labels alcohol
- Drinks from TheCocktailDB carry a label on the Discover screen: "Contains alcohol", "Alcohol-free", "Alcohol optional" or "May contain alcohol". The label comes from TheCocktailDB's own data. When TheCocktailDB has not labelled a drink, the app shows "May contain alcohol"; it never calls an unlabelled drink alcohol-free.
- Recipes in the app's own catalog each have a strength class. A catalog drink is classed as alcohol-free only when none of its ingredients contains alcohol.
- AI inventions are not checked. When you ask for an alcohol-free drink, the AI is told the drink must contain no alcohol, but nobody checks the result. Read every ingredient before you make it.
Alcohol-free choices
- On the Make tab, the "Alcohol-free" filter shows only the catalog drinks with no alcohol in them.
- When generating a recipe, the "Alcohol-free" switch makes the app search TheCocktailDB's non-alcoholic drinks first, so you get a real mocktail whenever one fits your shelf. Only if none fits does it ask the AI to invent one without alcohol.
- On the Discover screen, when a "Surprise me" pick contains or may contain alcohol, the app suggests an alcohol-free drink from its own catalog that you can make now or that is one bottle away ("Prefer something alcohol-free?").
What the app does not do
- It has no streaks, points, rewards or goals for drinking. The made-it history and the "Times made" count are a private record of what you made, not a target.
- It does not encourage drinking more, drinking faster or drinking games.
- It makes no medical, health, nutritional or safety claims about alcohol or about any drink. Strength figures and labels are approximate and do not tell you how much alcohol a drink contains or how it will affect you.
Please
- Never drink and drive, and do not drink before operating machinery or doing anything that needs your full attention. Plan how you will get home.
- Do not serve alcohol to anyone under the legal drinking age or to anyone who is already intoxicated.
- Follow the advice of the health authorities where you live, including about pregnancy, medicines and health conditions.
- Pace yourself, and offer alcohol-free options to your guests.
Allergens and ingredients
Recipe data in the app, whether it comes from our own catalog, from TheCocktailDB or from an AI invention, is not an allergen certification service. Cocktail ingredients can contain common allergens, recipes do not list every component of every product, and the same ingredient can differ from brand to brand. AI inventions can also name ingredients you do not have or did not expect.
Always check the product labels for allergens and cross-contamination warnings yourself, and ask your guests about allergies before you serve them.

TheCocktailDB's guidance
TheCocktailDB asks apps that use its data to label alcoholic drinks clearly and offer non-alcoholic alternatives where useful; not to encourage excessive consumption, unsafe drinking, drinking and driving, or drinking by people below the legal drinking age where they are; not to make medical or safety claims about alcohol; and to treat allergy questions carefully, because it is a recipe resource and not an allergen certification service. This page is how the app meets that guidance.
